What Should I Wear to My First Martial Arts Class

What Should I Wear to My First Martial Arts Class?

You don’t need any special uniform or equipment for your first martial arts class.

For a free trial, keeping it simple is best.

What to Wear

For teen and adult trial classes in Carshalton, Caterham, Ewell, North Cheam, and Redhill, we recommend:

• A comfortable t-shirt or sports top

• Joggers, leggings, or sports shorts

• Clean trainers (unless told otherwise by the coach)

The goal is comfort and ease of movement — not looking a certain way.

What You Don’t Need

You do not need:

• A martial arts uniform

• Special belts

• Protective equipment

• Previous kit or experience

Everything else is introduced gradually after you’ve decided to continue.

What Happens After the Trial

If you choose to join, coaches will:

• Explain uniform options

• Guide you through next steps

• Answer any questions clearly

There’s no pressure to buy anything on day one.

Focus on the Experience, Not the Outfit

Most people quickly realise:

• No one is judging what you wear

• Everyone is focused on training

• Comfort matters far more than appearance

Once the class starts, the nerves disappear.

Arrive Ready to Move

We recommend:

• Arriving a few minutes early

• Bringing water

• Letting the coach know if you have any injuries

That’s all you need to get started.

Try a Class Without Overthinking It

If you’re in Carshalton, Caterham, Ewell, North Cheam, or Redhill, a free trial class is the easiest way to start.

No special kit.

No pressure.

Just turn up and train.
